Orange Alert In Jharkhand Including Namkum, Check Other Affected Areas
Ranchi: Sudden dark clouds and heavy rainfall on Saturday provided much-needed relief to the residents of Ranchi and several other parts of Jharkhand, bringing down the temperature significantly.
The unexpected showers, accompanied by strong winds and thunder, lashed the capital and surrounding areas, causing the mercury to drop by 7 to 10 degrees Celsius. The rain also brought respite to the heatwave-hit northwestern districts of the state, including Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, and Latehar, where temperatures have been uncomfortably high in recent days.
While the rainfall offered welcome relief from the intense summer heat, it also created problems for many. Several low-lying areas and roads in the city witnessed waterlogging, and dirty water from overflowing drains spilled onto streets, causing inconvenience to commuters and residents.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, there is no major change expected in the maximum temperature over the next 24 hours. However, the temperature is likely to rise again by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius between June 1 and June 4.
The rain has provided temporary relief, but residents are advised to remain prepared for the return of warmer conditions early next week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for several districts, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds gusting at 50-60 km/h and lightning. The alert covers:
- North-eastern districts: Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Jamtara, Giridih, and Sahibganj
- Central regions: Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Gumla, Bokaro, Khunti, Lohardaga, Koderma, and parts of Dhanbad
These conditions are likely to persist in some areas till June 5, for which a Yellow Alert has also been issued.
Offbeaty advises people in Namkum, Doranda, Bariatu, and other suburban areas to stay cautious of waterlogged roads and open manholes during such sudden spells.
