Jharkhand Improves 29 Points in National School Education Index, Moves to Aspirational-1 Category
Ranchi: In a significant development for school education in the state, Jharkhand has registered a notable improvement in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2024-25 released by the Union Ministry of Education.
The state has improved by 29 points, taking its overall score from 502.2 in PGI 2023-24 to 531.1 this year. With this jump, Jharkhand has moved up from the Aspirational-2 category to the higher Aspirational-1 category.
Despite the positive progress, the state continues to lag behind 13 other states that have achieved better grades in the Prachesta categories. No state in the country has yet reached the top ‘Uttam’ category, which requires three more levels of improvement from Jharkhand’s current position.
Jharkhand now shares the Aspirational-1 category with 15 other states. Only four states: Bihar, Mizoram, Jammu & Kashmir, and Meghalaya are placed below Jharkhand in the index.
Education officials view this 29-point jump as an encouraging sign, reflecting better performance in several parameters of school education. However, experts emphasize that the state still needs focused attention on key areas such as learning outcomes, infrastructure, teacher availability, and digital education to climb further in the national rankings.
This improvement comes as a boost for the state government, which has been pushing various initiatives to strengthen government schools, especially in rural and semi-urban areas like Namkum, Doranda, and other Ranchi suburbs.
