Power Cut In Pune Today Due To Fault In EHV Line (May 15)
Pune: A technical fault in a 220 kV extra high voltage (EHV) transmission line between Theur and Magarpatta triggered widespread power disruptions across Pune on Thursday afternoon.
The outage affected several key localities including Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Camp, Wanowrie, Kothrud, Aundh, and Baner.
According to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), the fault occurred around 1:20 PM, shortly after scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance work was completed. The maintenance was carried out jointly by MSEDCL and Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (MSETCL) from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM as part of monsoon preparedness.
Power supply was briefly restored by noon, but the sudden fault in the Theur-Magarpatta transmission corridor disrupted the network again, forcing authorities to undertake load management.
Officials stated that around 50 MW of load had to be shed to stabilize the system and prevent further outages. MSETCL EHV substations at National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Kothrud, and Parvati also carried out load management, leading to temporary power cuts in areas such as Nanded City, Parvati, Kothrud, Aundh, and Baner during the afternoon.
