Skateboarder Rolls Across United States Coast to Coast in 39 Days, Shattering His Own World Record
A California skateboarder has once again proven that grit, four wheels, and a lot of stamina can carry a person across an entire country, and this time, he did it faster than ever before.
Chad Caruso pushed off from Venice Beach, California, on May 1 and rolled into Jacksonville, Florida, on June 8, covering more than 3,000 miles in just 39 days. That pace works out to roughly 72 miles a day, an average that’s hard to imagine maintaining on foot, let alone balanced on a skateboard.
The journey wasn’t Caruso’s first cross-country trek. In 2023, he skated from Venice Beach to Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 57 days, 6 hours, and 56 minutes, a feat that earned him a Guinness World Records title for the fastest skateboard crossing of America. This year’s trip was, in part, an attempt to beat his own record.
But for Caruso, the journey was about more than speed. He used the trip to mark a major personal milestone: 10 years of sobriety. He has spoken about how skateboarding played a central role in turning his life around.
“Skateboarding was the thing that kept me out of trouble. I did it my whole life. I was obsessed with it. Got injured and I ended up quitting,” Caruso said. “Brought it back and everything turned out better”, Caruso told Action News Jax.
Caruso documented the entire cross-country push on YouTube, giving followers a day-by-day look at the roads, weather, and physical toll of skating through multiple states over five weeks.
The trip also served a charitable purpose. Caruso used the journey to raise money for Natural High, a nonprofit that encourages young people to stay active and avoid drugs and alcohol, a cause closely tied to his own story of recovery.
