Ranchi Ward Councillors Meet DC; Discuss Civic Issues, Women’s Safety and Anti-Drug Drive

Ranchi: Ward councillors from various parts of Ranchi city met District Collector-cum-District Magistrate Mr. Manjunath Bhajantri on Monday to discuss a range of civic problems, public amenities and the implementation of government schemes. The councillors also submitted a memorandum urging the administration to make the city cleaner and safer, and to ensure that the benefits of ongoing government programmes reach ordinary citizens.

Addressing the councillors, Mr. Bhajantri underlined that strong coordination between the district administration and elected public representatives is essential to making Ranchi a model city with quality civic infrastructure. He stressed the need to prioritise regular sanitation drives, solid waste management and the cleanliness of public spaces across all wards. He added that cleanliness in every ward would be taken up as a people’s movement so that citizens themselves become active participants in keeping the city clean and beautiful.

Women’s safety received special attention during the meeting. The District Collector appealed to all councillors to run public awareness campaigns in their respective wards, emphasising that community participation plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of women and adolescent girls. He called for dialogue programmes to be organised in schools and neighbourhoods, and stressed that information about women’s helpline numbers must be actively disseminated among residents at the ground level.

Mr. Bhajantri also directed councillors to support the ongoing Special Intensive Revision Campaign for electoral rolls, instructing them to ensure that no eligible voter is left off the list. Councillors were urged to raise awareness among residents and to coordinate closely with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to make the campaign a success.

The meeting also saw a serious discussion on the growing menace of drug abuse among the youth. The District Collector said that curbing the rising influence of drugs requires a three-pronged approach: social awareness, community vigilance, and open dialogue at the family level. He called on councillors to champion this cause in their wards and mobilise residents toward building a drug-free society.

The meeting was attended by councillors representing multiple wards of Ranchi Municipal Corporation and was described by participants as a productive step toward bridging the gap between local governance and the district administration.
