Woman Allegedly Poisons Children and Herself Amid Alleged In-Law Harassment
Ranchi: A heart-wrenching case of suspected family trauma has come to light at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, where a woman allegedly poisoned her two young children and then consumed poison herself due to severe mental harassment from her in-laws following her husband’s death.
The incident occurred on 25 May. The woman, identified as Dileshwari Devi, lost both her children in the aftermath. Her daughter Priyanka died shortly after being admitted, while her son Prince succumbed to the poisoning on 29 May during treatment at RIMS.
According to the statement given by Dileshwari’s brother, Vishwanath Mahto, to the police at RIMS, her husband Chandradeep Mahto passed away on 10 May. Following his death, her in-laws allegedly began subjecting her to continuous mental torture and harassment. Family members claim that the relentless pressure and trauma pushed Dileshwari to take the extreme step.
Distraught, Dileshwari is said to have first administered poison to both children and then consumed it herself. She later informed her family members about the act, triggering panic. All three were immediately rushed to Hazaribag Sadar Hospital.
At Hazaribag, doctors declared Priyanka dead on arrival. Due to their critical condition, Dileshwari Devi and Prince were referred to RIMS in Ranchi for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, Prince passed away on 29 May. Dileshwari remains under treatment at RIMS, with her condition still critical.
